TEST MATCH: Churchill Cup Game 1

05.06.2010
Russia v United States in Glendale

Venue: Infinity Park

Referee:

Preview
The first match of the 2010 Churchill Cup puts two teams on the paddock that last met 6 years ago. Since then Russia has qualified for the Rugby World Cup finals for the first time whilst the USA has been in rebuilding mode after a number of key players retired after the 2007 event.

For Russia it will be their first trial of strength outside the European Nations Cup Tournament, where they came second and automatically qualified for the 2011 Rugby World Cup finals. They have a team mixed with youth and experience. It will be in the forwards that they hold their strength.

The USA is fielding a team mixed with new caps and experience but without leader Todd Clever injured they may struggle. never underestimate a team playing at home in front of a home crowd.

If last years tournament, held at the same venue, is anything to go by, expect hot dry conditions in Denver.

  1. I think
    4. Alexander Pronenko = Alexander Voitov
    8. Artem Matveev = Artem Fatakhov
    Prediction: US by 12 points.
Without Kulemyn, Ostrikov and Kluchnikov will be hard.
Also Gvozdovsky. He is excellent wing but he has problems with the sport regime.
