Briefly
Big upset in Costa Rica as the home side were defeated by Ecuador. Ecuador virtually has the CONSUR C wrapped up with only tournament minnows El Salvador to face on Saturday.
Of interest on Saturday will be an invitation test match between Nicaragua and Panama. This will be the first official test match to be played by either country. With Ecuador likely to be promoted to CONSUR B a spot will be available in CONSUR C. One wonders if the winner of the Nicaragua-Panama game will be invited into CONSUR C.

This is the second year that a CONSUR C tournament has taken place. Last year Costa Rica (who took part in CONSUR B from 2009 to 2011) went through undefeated against El Salvador, Guatemala and Ecuador.
This year the stakes are higher as the winner of CONSUR C will be promoted to CONSUR B for 2014. This is a result of the restructuring of CONSUR A which sees Paraguay join Brazil, Chile and Uruguay in the top group.
In addition Panama and Nicaragua have been invited to play a friendly test match (the first official test match for both nations) on Saturday morning 9am!
Rugby is developing in Bolivia and Honduras and at some stage we can expect a CONSUR D tournament in the future.
Playing on their home turf Costa Rica are expected to move to CONSUR B.
Predictions:
Costa Rica by 50 v El Salvador
Guatemala by 20 v Ecuador

With the growth of rugby in Latin America it has now been possible to add three more nations to the competition. Guatemala (hosts), Ecuador and El Salvador join Costa Rica to make up CONSUR C.

Costa Rica v El Salvador in Guatemala City (CONSUR C)
Guatemala v Ecuador in Guatemala City (CONSUR C)
Briefly
Apart from the BIG rugby matches at Twickenham and Cardiff, spare a thought for three Latin American nations who will officially start their test rugby histories. CONSUR has developed a ‘C’ division in their annual test rugby competitions. El Salvador, Guatemala and Ecuador all begin their test rugby history on Sunday
It has been announced that a new division will appear in South American rugby. At present the governing body, CONSUR, has two divisions, A and B. Later this year we should see a third, C, division.
CONSUR C will consist of Costa Rica, who has already played in CONSUR B, El Salvador, Guatemala and Ecuador.
The tournament is expected to be played later this year.
ECUADOR
The Federación Ecuatoriana de Rugby was affiliated to CONSUR in 2011.
‘Miguel Angel Coronel Densy was born on April 6th 1989 in Ecuador´s largest city, Santiago de Guayaquil (more commonly refered to simply as Guayaquil). At 80KG he is a lightweight utility back but has succeeded in playing for La Vila in the Spanish domestic competition the División de Honor and for the club on the European stage as he faced Brive both home and away in the Amlin Challenge Cup. The official site of the Amlin Challenge Cup and the Heineken Cup lists the player by the name of Bambi Coronel Densy, but more importantly lists Ecuador as his country of birth.’

It is believed Rica played their first rugby test in 2005, winning 60-0 against Panama although this is yet to be confirmed. It may have been club sides.
In 2007 Costa Rica entered a Central American Championship. Although not regarded as test matches, Panama and Guatemala have played in this competition regularly since.
In 2009 Costa Rica entered and hosted CONSUR B for the first time. The other teams were Venezuela, Colombia and Peru.

Colombia 27, Costa Rica 12 in Lima
Venezuela 17, Peru 15 in Lima
Briefly
Venezuela are the new CONSUR B champions following their 17-15 win over hosts Peru. Peru led 15-5 at one stage but could not withstand the Venezuelan comeback.
In the playoff game Costa Rica proved they have advanced considerably since last year. They lead 12-3 at one stage but Colombia also produced a grand comeback to clinch the game.
My understanding is that in the future there will be a playoff between last in CONSUR A and first in CONSUR B and that a CONSUR C is being considered for 2012. Possible candidates for CONSUR B would be Bolivia and Ecuador, who already have a healthy club set up, followed by Guatemala, Nicaragua and Panama.
26.08.2011
Canada v Australian Barbarians in Canberra (World Cup Warm-up)
Peru v Venezuela in Lima (CONSUR B)
Colombia v Costa Rica in Lima (CONSUR B)
Briefly
Peru and Venezuela set the perfect CONSUR B final with their wins yesterday. A win the Peru, the hosts, would mean they would retain the CONSUR B championship.
Canada plays the Australian Barbarian team in Canberra in their final run before the Rugby World Cup finals. The Australian Barbarian team consist of a number of World Cup squad members and some non-travelling reserve players.
The 2011 CONSUR B tournament takes place in the next week in Lima, Peru. The competing teams are Peru (hosts and winners last year), Costa Rica, Venezuela and Colombia. At the same time under 18 age group teams from the same countries will compete.

Costa Rica v Peru
Preview
Costa Rica is the minnow in this competition. They first entered the competition in 2006 but were completely outclassed. That was followed by a three year rebuilding phase and they re entered the competition in 2009. They struggled again and it is gratifying to see them persist at the international test match level.
Hosts Peru should have little difficulty with the Costa Ricans.
