RUGBY EUROPE CHAMPIONSHIP: Division 2C

DENMARK 5 0 0 5 89 114 -25 5 5

Preview
Slovenia shouldn’t have too many problems winning against Denmark at home. They won away the first leg match 16-10 and were very strong against Serbia last weekend. A win is essential if they are to close in on Luxembourg at the top of the table.

Serbia showed spirit against Slovenia last weekend and nearly scored a fourth try towards the end of the match. Their task against Luxembourg away will be very difficult as the North European team is riding a high and is at home.

Predictions
Slovenia by 22 v Denmark: Score 31-9
Luxembourg by 20 v Serbia. Score 32-12

RUGBY EUROPE CHAMPIONSHIP

10.10.2015
Ukraine 17, Belgium 16 in Kiev (REC 1B)
Austria 31, Denmark 25 in Odense (REC 2C)

Briefly
Ukraine the first major upset of the REC competition and especially in Division 1B when they defeated Belgium 17-16 at home. Belgium had been undefeated prior to Saturday.

Both sides scored 4 tries but Austria just pulled ahead of hosts Denmark. This result eases Austria away from the relegation zone but places Denmark dangerously close to relegation.

Newly promoted from RED 2D at the end of the 2012-14 competition Luxembourg has hit the road running in their new level of test rugby. They remain undefeated after three games and have bottom dweller Denmark standing between them and a clean sweep.

Luxembourg’s long term head coach Marty Davis says farewell to the senior coaching roll at the end of this game.

Denmark on the other were relegated from ENC 2B following the 2012-14 competition. The irony is that they hold up the bottom of the table. Surely this must be one of Denmark’s low points in international test rugby.

TEST RUGBY RESULTS: REC 2C & 2D 25

25.04.2015
Serbia 25, Denmark 22 in Odense (REC 2C)
Slovenia 17, Austria 16 in Vienna (REC 2C)
Bosnia Herzegovina 29, Finland 7 in Zenica (REC 2D)
Turkey 28, Bulgaria 26 in Antalya (REC 2D)

Briefly
In a close game in Odense Serbia continued its amazing turnaround by defeating Denmark. Serbia is now looking a likely promotion candidate next season.

Slovenia just edged out home team Austria in another very close game. This is now Austria’s second loss in a row.

In Division 2D Bosnia Herzegovina were too good for visitors Finland whilst Turkey caused an upset defeating Bulgaria by two points. This was a second leg game meaning normally it would have been played next season.

REC DVISION 2C: SERBIA v DENMARK

SERBIA 3 1 0 2 25 87 -62 0 4
DENMARK 2 0 0 2 37 45 -8 2 2

These two teams are keeping the bottom of this division warm. They, along with Austria, have two losses each but Serbia has that win over Austria last weekend. Denmark is yet to register a win.

Last week’s win at home has marked a turning point for Serbian fortunes on the rugby field. A new coach and a new direction promises to bring Serbia back up to the happier rugby days when the then Yugoslavia was a modest force in European rugby.

Denmark has played some of the top teams and although losing they have run these teams close. Should be a close game but having the home advantage I’d expect Denmark to win narrowly.
