NACRA Caribbean Championship. South Playoff

07.11.2015
Barbados 17, British Virgin Islands 15 in Tortola.

This win means that Barbados stays in the first division South whilst BVI remains in the second.

The match USA South v Bahamas was also scheduled for today but nothing can be found about this game. If this is the case Bahamas stays in Division 1 whilst, surprisingly, USA South remains in North Division 2.

NACRA CARIBBEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

07.03.2015
Guyana 48, Barbados 22 in Georgetown (Caribbean Champ., South Div.1)
Mexico 50, USA South 25 in Mexico City (Caribbean Champ., North Div.1)
St Vincent G. 24, Curacao 24 in Wilhelmstadt (Caribbean Champ., South Div.2)
Bermuda 56, Turks & Caicos Islands 3 in Hamilton (Carib. Champ., North Div.2)

Reviews
The major upset of the day was Mexico’s win over the USA South side. Not only that but the newly promoted side whacked on 50 points against a disappointing USA team.

Guyana looked a champion side as they proved too strong for Barbados at home. This is the team that won the competition last year.

St Vincent arrived late in Wilhelmstadt and without their luggage. So apparently no team shirts and no boots. Well something went right for them because they held the home side to a very respectable score.

Bermuda, relegated from the Championship league last year were too strong for neighbours Turks and Caicos Islands.

The next round is on March 21.
Cayman Islands are due to begin their Championship campaign and are due in the USA to play USA South. Trinidad and Tobago also opens their Championship programme away to Barbados. St Vincent & Grenadines are due to Play St Lucia in a Southern Cup fixture whilst also a Souther Cup match will see the British Virgin Islands play Curacao. Rugby in the sun!

Mexico 96, Turks & Caicos Islands 0 in Mexico City (Carib. Ch.,Div.2, North)

Briefly
For the first time since entering this competition a few years ago the USA team has lost a game. They lost the final 30-27 at home after extra time. Guyana is the new Caribbean champion.

In the other game played Mexico crushed Turks and Caicos Islands at home. The promotion-relegation playoffs will be played in September.

NACRA CARIBBEAN CHAMPIONSHIP 28 June

28.06.2014
Guyana v USA South in TBA (Caribbean Champ., Final)
Mexico v Turks and Caicos Islands in Mexico City (Carib. Champ.,Div.2, North)
Bahamas v Jamaica in Nassau (Caribbean Champ., Div.2, North)

Briefly
The big game here is the final. It will be a huge task for Guyana to win this one away from home and in a very unfamiliar environment which is the US of A. I can’t see USA South losing this one.

Prediction: USA South by 20 points

The other two games are the final ones in the round robin series

Mexico by 30 v Turks and Caicos Islands
Bahamas by 5 v Jamaica

The USA South reached another stage in their bid to win the NACRA Caribbean Championship North Zone competition. So far they have defeated Mexico 50-23 and Jamaica 29-12. Playing away to the Bahamas will be a tough assignment for the American’s but their form is very good and they have managed to retain much of their squad over the three games.

Prediction: USA South by 10 points

MEXICO v USA SOUTH: NACRA North Round 1

19.01.2013

Venue: Life University, Marietta, Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Referee: Christopher Henshall (USA)

Preview

The USA South side will play Mexico in Round 1 of the North Zone for the NACRA Championship. The USA South last played in 2011. They missed 2012 due to the fact that the NACRA Championship also doubled as a Rugby World Cup qualifying tournament. USA South is ineligible to play at the Rugby World Cup.

These two teams have met once before. In 2011 Mexico defeated USA South 25-9 in Mexico City in the NACRA Championship, Round 1, North Zone knockout match.

Mexico took part in the NACRA Championship in 2012. After a resounding 68-14 against Jamaica at home they surprisingly lost heavily 13-46 to Cayman Islands away and were eliminated.

The winner of this rugby test match will progress to play the winner of the Jamaica-Turks and Caicos Islands test match, also being played today.

TEST RUGBY MATCH: USA South Too Good For Jamaica

25.06.2011
USA 52, Jamaica 5 in Kingston (Friendly)

Briefly
This rugby test match slipped under our radar last weekend. According to the report below this test match was sanctioned by the IRB. Both teams were eliminated in the first round of the Caribbean Championship so decided to square off. This is excellent initiative by both unions. Lets hope this sort of arrangements continue and that the Caribbean gets more rugby exposure at this level.
