MEXICO v CAYMAN ISLANDS: NACRA Champ., North

11.04.2015

Venue: Grand Cayman

Referee: Sherry Trumbull (Canada)

Preview
Canadian female referee Sherry Trumbull will take charge of this vital Caribbean Championship North game in Cayman Islands.

For the first time since the tournament was restructured the USA South team will not be in the final. Mexico and Caymans will play this match to determine who the North champion is. The winner will play either Guyana or Trinidad Tobago who also play this weekend.

Cayman’s effort to win in Atlanta must be respected. So must Mexico’s run away win against USA South in Mexico. This could be very close.

As has happened before these two nations square off for the Championship South title and a games against the Championship North winner for the title.

There is never much between these two teams and it always difficult to gauge their strengths when you don’t have both line ups available. Trinidad Tobago will have home advantage.

Last Five Encounters
07.06.2014 Guyana 15-8 in Georgetown (NACRA Carib.Champ., South)
01.06.2013 Trinidad Tobago 20-0 in Port of Spain (NACRA Carib. South R2)
02.06.2012 Guyana 20-0 in Georgetown (NACRA Carib. South R2)
28.05.2011 Guyana 22-20 in Port of Spain (NACRA Carib. South R3)
26.04.2008 Trinidad Tobago 40-24 in G.Cayman (WCQ NAWIRA B Cup, Final)

The rivalry between these two nations goes back to 1961. In that year these two and Jamaica began the Triangular Tournament which would eventually become the Caribbean Championship.

Based on this year’s results I expect T&T to win.
