ASIA NATIONS TEST RUGBY TOURNAMENT

Asia Nations Division 4

Now that the Asia Nations Division 1 has been settled it’s time for the lower divisions.

Lebanon v Jordan

These two teams met in May 2010 in a friendly encounter in Dubai. Lebanon won 27-8

Lebanon lost last year to Qatar 14-29 in the Division 4 final. There was no promotion-relegation in Division 4 last year.In March this year Lebanon travelled to Cyprus and lost to the Cyprus Barbarians 3-31. There is every intention to return to Cyprus this year to play the British Services XV.

Jordan has participated more in the Asia Nations tournaments since their first test match in 2010. They won the 2010 final against Uzbekistan 28-3. In 2011 they lost to Qatar 8-26 but then defeated Uzbekistan 17-14 to take 3rd place.

Qatar v Uzbekistan

Qatar began its test rugby history last year at this tournament. Part of the newly disbanded Arabian Gulf rugby union they quickly got into stride by winning the final against Lebanon 29-14

These two teams have never met in a rugby test match before.

Afghanistan will make their first major international appearance against the local UAE sevens side.

The final round in this division is to be played on Friday night. All games will be curtain-raisers for the Hong Kong v United Arab Emirates game.
