Scotland 9, Australia 6 in Newcastle
Samoa 20, Tonga 18 in Nagoya (Pacific Nations Cup)
Fiji 25, Japan 19 in Nagoya (Pacific Nations Cup)
So much for my predictions! All wrong!
Australia again stumbled in their first rugby test match of 2012. They stumbled against Samoa last year. Australia had the major share of possession but just couldn’t penetrate the impressive Scotland defence. The conditions were atrocious and both sides kept the ball tight and close to the forwards. Scotland’s penalty goal in injury time was a heart-breaker for the Aussies.
Samoa and Fiji got their 2012 season and Pacific Nations Cup campaigns off to a good start. Japan were very disappointing against a less experienced Fijian team whilst Samoa just edged out Tonga.
