CONSUR B: Day 2

11.11.2015
G3.Colombia v Venezuela in Lima (CONSUR B)

Last year Colombia won this competition and defeated Venezuela 27-10 in the process. Colombia looks the goods to take this competition again and they should win this one.

Prediction: Colombia by 7 points. Score 22-15

G4.Peru v Ecuador in Lima (CONSUR B)

Just how much has Ecuador improved from last year? This match should sort that question out. Peru will likely rest a few players before their big clash with Colombia on Saturday. This will give Ecuador a chance to post a respectable result.

Prediction: Peru by 28 points. Score 45-17

Peru caused an upset at the CONSUR B tournament in Lima with a convincing 24-10 win over Venezuela. Colombia outplayed Ecuador in the first game of the day but the Ecuadorians were a greatly improved side than the one last that conceded 100 points against the same opposition.

Colombia against Peru could well be the decider in this competition.

CONSUR B DAY 3 Finals Day

06.09.2014
Colombia 27, Venezuela 10 in Apartado (CONSUR B, Final)
Peru 24, Ecuador 17 in Apartado (CONSUR B, Playoff 3rd-4th)

Briefly
Day 3 of the CONSUR B tournament held in Colombia saw pre-match predictions just about go to script. A frenetic first half saw Colombia build a handy lead. Two yellow cards (one to each side) in this half was a pre-warning of things to come. A shambolic second half saw another three yellow cards dished out all to Colombia. This had the effect of an even second half in which no points were score. So Colombia took out CONSUR B honours.

COLOMBIA CAMPEÓN DEL SUDAMERICANO B DE RUGBY

Colombia took out CONSUR B honours with a 27-10 win over Venezuela

In the other game Ecuador improved their game immensely from what we saw on days 1 and 2. Peru dominated the first half and led 19-7 at halftime but Ecuador out scored Peru 10-5 in the second half but just couldn’t catch their neighbours.

My understanding is that promotion-relegation between CONSUR A and B will take place every second year.

The CONSUR C tournament is due in early October. It will be held in Panama City with participating teams being Panama (hosts), Costa Rica (relegated from CONSUR B 2013), Guatemala and El Salvador. Honduras, I understand, will take part as a guest side.

CONSUR B Day 1 Results

31.08.2014
Venezuela 33, Peru 28 in Apartado (CONSUR B)
Colombia 112, Ecuador 0 in Apartado (CONSUR B)

Briefly
The Venezuela-Peru game went much according to plan with Venezuela edging out the Peruvians in a tight game.

The second result was a surprise re the margin. Ecuador shipped two yellow cards which would not have helped. They may also have not fielded their strongest team keeping players for game against Peru. It looks like a tough tournament for the Ecuadorians. There is obviously a big gap between CONSUR B and C.Colombia scored 18 tries and led 66-0 at halftime.

The CONSUR B tournament gets underway Sunday with a new competition format. Colombia on home ground would be favourites to win this but with stiff competition from Venezuela. Peru could upset but Ecuador could be well out of its depth.

Peru has two warm up tests against Ecuador back in mid July, winning both games 45-0 and 36-8.

RUGBY WORLD CUP QUALIFYING: CONSUR B Day 2

12.09.2012
Paraguay 69, Peru 3 in Valencia (WCQ Americas; CONSUR B)
Colombia 26, Venezuela 3 in Valencia (WCQ Americas; CONSUR B)

Briefly
The biggest shock of the day was how comfortably Colombia cruised past hosts Venezuela. The other surprise was the Paraguay’s margin of win over Peru.

CONSUR B TEST RUGBY: Day 2

12.09.2012
Venezuela v Colombia in Valencia (WCQ Americas; CONSUR B)
Paraguay v Peru in Valencia (WCQ Americas; CONSUR B)

Venue: Aristides Pineda Stadium

Briefly
Day one (and I now believe there is to be a day 3) saw Paraguay see off last seeded Colombia in convincing fashion whilst Venezuela had a might tussle against last years finalist Peru. Much interest will be shown in the Paraguay-Peru match as this will gauge the strength of the men from Asuncion with Saturdays ‘final’ between Venezuela and Paraguay.

Paraguay v Colombia in Valencia (WCQ Americas; CONSUR B Semi-final)

Preview
Paraguay finds itself in CONSUR B after finishing last in last year’s CONSUR A competition. This match will be an interesting gauge of the strength and growth of the other South American nations that usually grace the fields of CONSUR B tournaments. Paraguay has barely moved in its standards since 2008 so we wait for this result with some interest.

CONSUR B TEST RUGBY: Venezuela Are New Champions

27.08.2011
Colombia 27, Costa Rica 12 in Lima
Venezuela 17, Peru 15 in Lima

Briefly
Venezuela are the new CONSUR B champions following their 17-15 win over hosts Peru. Peru led 15-5 at one stage but could not withstand the Venezuelan comeback.

In the playoff game Costa Rica proved they have advanced considerably since last year. They lead 12-3 at one stage but Colombia also produced a grand comeback to clinch the game.

My understanding is that in the future there will be a playoff between last in CONSUR A and first in CONSUR B and that a CONSUR C is being considered for 2012. Possible candidates for CONSUR B would be Bolivia and Ecuador, who already have a healthy club set up, followed by Guatemala, Nicaragua and Panama.

TEST RUGBY AHEAD

26.08.2011
Canada v Australian Barbarians in Canberra (World Cup Warm-up)
Peru v Venezuela in Lima (CONSUR B)
Colombia v Costa Rica in Lima (CONSUR B)

Briefly
Peru and Venezuela set the perfect CONSUR B final with their wins yesterday. A win the Peru, the hosts, would mean they would retain the CONSUR B championship.

Canada plays the Australian Barbarian team in Canberra in their final run before the Rugby World Cup finals. The Australian Barbarian team consist of a number of World Cup squad members and some non-travelling reserve players.

INTERNATIONAL RUGBY TOURNAMENT: CONSUR B

The 2011 CONSUR B tournament takes place in the next week in Lima, Peru. The competing teams are Peru (hosts and winners last year), Costa Rica, Venezuela and Colombia. At the same time under 18 age group teams from the same countries will compete.

20.08.2011
Costa Rica v Peru

Preview
Costa Rica is the minnow in this competition. They first entered the competition in 2006 but were completely outclassed. That was followed by a three year rebuilding phase and they re entered the competition in 2009. They struggled again and it is gratifying to see them persist at the international test match level.

Hosts Peru should have little difficulty with the Costa Ricans.
