CHURCHILL CUP TEST RUGBY: Tonga Starts Campaign

08.06.2011
Tonga v United States in Esher (Churchill Cup, Pool A)

Venue: Moseley Road

Referee:

Preview
Tonga begins its 2011 Rugby World Cup preparations when they meet the USA in the Churchill Cup. This is Tonga’s first appearance in the Churchill Cup. They have been able to call upon a number of foreign-based players but a number are still missing. Tonga will also have the Pacific nations Cup, played in Fiji in July, to prepare.

USA coach Eddie O’Sullivan has made wholesale changes to the lineup that was crushed by the England Saxons in their first up encounter in the Cup. Things won’t get any easier as the hard-hitting Tongans will be out to impress and build confidence leading into the World Cup Finals.

Previous Encounters
12.09.2007 Tonga 25-15 in Montpellier (World Cup, Pool A)
08.07.2000 Tonga 29-6 in Nuku’alofa (Pacific Rim)

GWC Rugby Rankings
