Ireland 13, Italy 11 in Rome (6 Nations Int. Championship)
France 34, Scotland 21 in Paris (6 Nations Int. Championship)
Yesterday
England 26, Wales 19
Briefly
England, Ireland and France came away from the first round of the 6 Nations International rugby championship with maximum points. The only clear-cut winners were France.
The French proved my theory about not playing two poor games in a row. Scotland were on the receiving end of the French backlash following Australia’s humiliating 59-16 win in Paris last November.
The surprise of the day came in Rome where Italy very nearly pulled off their first 6 Nations win against Italy. Only a late dropped goal by veteran O’Gara saved Irish blushes.
On Friday night England had to battle hard against a determined Welsh side in Cardiff.
