Ukraine v Belgium in Brussels (WCQ Euro.R2, ENC 2A)
Previews
Belgium is one of the rising stars in European rugby. An active rugby union has promoted the Argentine rugby team to play in Brussels just prior to the 2007 Rugby World Cup and a star-studded British Barbarians team earlier this year. Hand-in-hand has been the gradual rise of the Belgian National team over the past few seasons. Just pipped last season by the Germans, who were promoted to Division 1, Belgium should be in the running to gain promotion mid-2010 after the two rounds in ENC 2A.
The Ukraine were relegated from Division 1 in 2006. They struggled in this division last season but were well clear of relegation. They lost out twice to Belgium over the two rounds. It remains to be seen if they will threaten the leaders at this level. Saturday should give us a clear indication.

Dries Bovijn plays at Boitsfort, (Belgium) and Bertrand Billi at Soignies (Belgium)
ReplyDeleteVery close match, 3-5 at halftime, 9-8 final score.
4000 (paying) spectators showed up, for a very rainy match, made it difficult to play nice rugby. Belgium missed 3 dropkick attempts, Ukraine missed a penalty in the 80the minute.
