Whilst some World Cup eyes are focus on Tunis for the first Namibia-Tunisia clash, eyes will also be on the first America's playoff clash between Uruguay and the USA. The winner of this series will qualify for a place in the 2011 Rugby World Cup Finals as Americas 2. The loser goes into the draw for the very last place at the finals.

The USA arrived in Montevideo without two long stalwarts of USA rugby, front-rower Mike MacDonald, and utility back Salesi Sika. Whilst they will be difficult to replace, USA coach Eddie O'Sullivan (ex Ireland fame) says his squad has had plenty of match play over the summer and autumn.

Uruguay has the home advantage but it's history against the USA is not good. They lost 9-43 away this time last year and has not defeated the USA since 2002. They do not have as many Europe-based players (the USA squad boasts 19 European club past or present experience). They do have the home advantage and they will need to win and win well.

08.11.2008 USA 43-9 in Salt Lake City

30.08.2003 USA 31-17 in Buenos Aires (Pan American Series)
31.08.2002 Uruguay 10-9 in Montevideo (WCQ America R4)

These results tell us that the USA has an advantage over their southern rivals.

Test Rugby: Argentina Jaguars Ready to Pounce in Georgia

14.11.2009
Argentina 'A' v Georgia in Tblissi

Venue: Estadio National Dinamo de Tbilisi.

Referee: Marius Jonker (South Africa)

Preview
The Argentinian Jaguars visit Georgia to help celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the formation of the Georgian rugby union. That was back in the Soviet Union era. Georgia played its first international rugby match in 1991.

This will be the first time that an Argentinean side has visited Georgia and only the second time senior men's teams from Argentina and Georgia have met on a rugby field.

The Jaguars have had a busy year and now arrive in Europe to play a test against Georgia, and then two against Portugal. They have had successes against Namibia at home (twice), against Chile and Uruguay to take the CONSUR A title, then Uruguay again (twice) and now to Europe.

This will be Georgia's first test since they contested the Churchill Cup back in June. With some 16 top players not available, Georgia struggled. I'd expect the team to be near full strength, and that they will test the 2009 Jaguars.

World Cup Rugby: Will it be Tunisia or Namibia?

14.11.2009
Namibia v Tunisia in Tunis (WCQ Africa & Africa Cup; Final, 1st leg)

Venue: Stade National de rugby d’El Menzah

Referee:

Preview
The winner of this series (game 2 in Windhoek, November 28) will qualify directly into the Rugby World Cup finals. The loser still gets another chance. They will play the winner of Europe R6 for a final World Cup finals place.

Namibia warmed up for this crucial game with a 12-9 win over Portugal in Lisbon. Traditionally they have not performed well against the Tunisians but have won all their home fixtures. Namibia will want to win here in Tunis but they will at least push the Tunisians as close as they can, knowing they have the home advantage for the second leg.

Tunisia has the uphill battle. They must win, and win well, for their home fixture knowing they have never won away in Windhoek before. This game shapes up to be a cracker. I would love to be in Tunis Saturday.

Last Five Encounters
07.10.2006 Namibia 23-15 in Windhoek (WCQ Africa R2, Grp B; Africa Cup, Grp B)
01.07.2006 Tunisia 24-7 in Tunis (WCQ Africa R2, Group B; Africa Cup Group B)

28.09.2002 Namibia 26-19 in Windhoek (WCQ Africa R4)
18.04.1998 Namibia 20-17 in Tunis (WCQ Africa Rnd C)

Traditionally both these teams has found it difficult to win in each other's patch.

Because it's been a while since these two teams faced each other lets look at recent performances

Namibia's Last Five Tests
27.06.2009 Won 54-14 v Ivory Coast in Windhoek (WCQ Africa R2 & Africa Cup Semi Final)

08.05.2009 Lost 8-67 v Argentina XV in Buenos Aires
02.08.2008 Won 35-21 v Zimbabwe in Windhoek (WCQ Africa R1, Pool A)

14.06.2008 Won 16-12 v Cameroun in Yaounde (WCQ Africa R1, Pool C)

Tunisia has the better win/loss record but against weaker teams.

Realistically, neither of these teams has a chance of qualifying for the next World Cup qualifying round. The emphasis will be to avoid relegation and team-build for next season.

Moldova is at the bottom of ENC 2A and are in danger of relegation. They recently lost to Belgium, whereas the Czech Republic were convincing winners over Poland, above them in the 2A table. Although winning in Chisinau is not easy the Czech should win but narrowly.

Rugby Test: Austria Desperate to Avoid Relegation

14.11.2009
Norway v Austria in Vienna (ENC 3B)

Venue: Wiener Sportclub Stadion

Referee: Jelavic (Croatia)

Preview
Both teams will be desperate to win this test match as both are in danger of relegation. Austria is at the bottom of the table in Pool ENC 3B. In recent years Norway has held a slight advantage over their southern rival.

This pool has been an unpredictable one. Hungary and Slovenia are at the top of the table but Austria has defeated Slovenia whilst Norway defeated Denmark, who then defeated Hungary. The final result will see the strongest team standing. Despite the upsets it probably won't be either Norway or Austria.

Test Match: Cyprus Travels to Monaco

14.11.2009
Cyprus v Monaco in Menton

Venue: Stade du Val d'Annaud

Referee: Busutil (Malta)

Preview
Menton is a town in France close to the Principality of Monaco.

Cyprus played its first international rugby match in 2007 when they easily defeated Greece 39-3. In the eight tests played since they have been defeated only once, by Israel in a 3C/3D playoff last year. Having already defeated pool favourites Bosnia Herzegovina away, they remain undefeated and are likely winners of Pool D, and thus promotion to ENC 3C for 2010-12.

Monaco is a team mixed with international players from around the worldand some locals. This has caused them problems in the past especially when they win a game. Somebody complains about player eligibility, they are investigated, and more often than not, they have players who are not eligible. And do they care? Well, they take their rugby seriously but realistically without their international players they would not have a team.

Monaco is more than likely to be playing Azerbaijan for the wooden spoon in this competition. There is no relegation as this is the lowest level of competition in Europe.

Prediction: Difficult to ascertain without team lists. Cyprus has to travel, but I'll pick them to win by 7 points.

International Rugby: Springbox Arrive in France

13.11.2009
South Africa v France in Toulouse

Venue: Stadium de Toulouse

Referee: Wayne Barnes (England)

Preview
This is a huge test match and definitely the pick of the weekend's test rugby. The mighty South Africans arrive in France as champions of the Southern hemisphere. They have swept the All Black and the Wallabies before them as they took the Tri Nations Trophy. Just what sort of a French team will they meet?

SpiesPierre090808TackledGbg[1]
South Africa defeated Australia and New Zealand to become Southern Hemisphere Champions. Image thanks to www.sarugby.net

The French are, well, the French. At the moment, hot stuff one match and very ordinary the next. They were consistently up and down when they toured Australia and New Zealand in June, and were the same during the 6 Nations at the beginning of the year. The French coach Marc Lièvremont has been gradually building this side and could well dominate the South Africans up front with their huge pack.

Marc Lievremont France coach 2008-09
French coach Marc Lièvremont may well have finally settled upon a winning combination.

South Africa has come a long way since they last played France. They have won the Rugby World Cup and now the Tri Nations. Coach Peter de Villiers can best be described as colourful and unorthodox in his coaching and his dealings with the media. But he too has built this Springbox side up into a world championship team which, at present, holds number 1 spot in the GWC Rugby Rankings. Can they stay there? France will certainly challenge them.

Test Rugby: Samoa To Start the Pacific Island Onslaught

13.11.2009
Samoa v Wales in Cardiff

Venue: Millennium Stadium

Referee: Peter Fitzgibbon (Ireland)

Preview
Samoa and Tonga begin the Island invasion of the British Isles with tests against Ireland 'A', for Tonga, and against Wales, for Samoa. Fiji jumps into the fray with a test against Scotland tomorrow. You can expect some huge tackles from the Islanders and Samoa will be there sizing up the opposition, especially the backs.

during the Rugby Union international match between South Africa and Samoa at Ellis Park on June 9, 2007 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Samoa could well lead the way in Europe this November. Image thanks to http://www.samoarugbyunion.ws/

There has been a colourful rugby history between Wales and Samoa. We can go back to 1991 when Wales had a dreadful World Cup campaign. It started with a loss to Samoa 13-16 and they never got to the finals. Who remembers that grand day in Cardiff back in 1999 when Samoa ripped the Welsh team and hearts open again at a World Cup tournament with that amazing 38-31 win in the final pool match? It wasn't enough to knock the Welsh out of the quarter-finals but it certainly knocked the wind out of them. Australia went on to defeat Wales 24-9 but the damage had already been done in the match against Samoa. Samoa tried to repeat the win a year later in Cardiff but lost 6-50. That's the last time these two teams faced each other.

Can Samoa pull off something special tomorrow? Well, I think there are a few things against this Samoan team defeating Wales. Firstly, there just isn't the same motivation and atmosphere for the Samoans that the World Cup provides. Also, I don't think the team is that strong.

Wales is a stronger side since the team of a decade ago but they have made a number of changes to the team that faced the All Blacks last weekend. They have the very experienced Dwayne Peel at scrum half. So whilst being a weaker combination, they do have the advantage of organisation. The Samoans have had only days to be prepared whilst Wales has been training for weeks.

Rugby Test Match: Tongans take on Ireland 'A'

13.11.2009
Tonga v Ireland 'A' in Belfast

Venue: Ravenhill

Referee:

Preview
This may not even be a test match. Players for Ireland 'A' don't receive a test match credit, and usually Tonga will only award a 'cap' for matches against full international IRB rating sides. For example, Tonga does not award 'caps' against New Zealand Maori or Juniors in the Pacific Nations Cup.

Ireland 'A' were the successful 2009 Churchill Cup winners, the tournament held in Denver, USA. What looks like a young Tongan side will struggle against this Irish side.

Previous Encounters
Tonga has only ever played the full Irish side in previous tests
The last time was in 2003 when Ireland won 40-19 in Nuku'alofa, and prior to that in the first Rugby World Cup in 1987. That game was played in Brisbane, with Ireland winning 32-9.

GWC Rugby Rankings do not apply.

Prediction: Ireland 'A' by 20 points.

Rugby Test: Romania In Italy

Romania v Italy 'A' in Piacenza

Venue: Stadio Beltrametti

Romania's last test match was also against Italy 'A' in Bucharest, playing for the IRB Nations Cup. Italy 'A' won 24-19 in a close game.

Romania will take the opportunity to prepare for their vital ENC 1 and World Cup qualifying games in February-March. There are a number of experienced France-based players selected. This continues the trend to rely again of these experienced players and ending the era of including only local players. That experiment didn't work and has almost cost the Romanians a place in the 2011 Rugby World Cup finals. They will need to win all their ENC 1 second round games.

The Italians have included a number of players with test experience. The performance of the 'A' side is crucial in building up Italy's reserve players so they can step into top team positions if needed during the 6 Nations tournament in February and March next year.

Previous Encounters
21.06.2009 Italy 'A' 24-19 in Bucharest (IRB Nations Cup)
10.06.2007 Romania 19-8 in Bucharest (IRB Nations Cup)

Romania lost to the full Italian side 18-24 at the 2007 Rugby World Cup. In 2004 Romania defeated the full Italian side 25-24 in Bucharest.

Rugby Test: Ukrainians Play in Georgia

13.11.2009
Ukraine v Georgia 'A' in Tblissi

Venue: Estadio National Dinamo de Tbilisi.

Referee:

Preview
This weekend is a huge weekend of rugby celebrations. Firstly the FIRA-AER (who run European Conrinental rugby) celebrate their 75th anniversary in Brussels. Georgia is also celebrating. This weekend they celebrate their 50th anniversary as a rugby union. This match is the first celebration. Tomorrow the full Georgian side takes on the Argentine Jaguars.

It has been many years since a Georgian team and a Ukrainian team took to the same rugby field at senior men's level. In the very early days of Georgian international rugby they played 4 tests in a row. That was back in 1991-92. Georgia won all those tests and a handful against the Ukrainians since.

Since those early days the Ukrainians have only played in the same league as the Georgians once. That was in 2005-06 when the Ukraine were promoted to ENC 1 and then quickly departed in 2007, back to ENC 2A. But they look to be back on their way up to ENC 1 as they presently lead ENC 2A. The Georgians will find the Ukrainians more of a handful than did the Poles last weekend.

The Ukrainian side is not their strongest. As with Poland last weekend, European national sides are having difficulties selecting their strongest sides. In Ukraine's case two Russian-based players are unavailable as are some players from certain clubs. It's difficult to find out why.

Previous Encounters
Georgia 'A' has never played Ukraine before. The Georgian First XV has played and defeated the Ukrainians on a number of occasions.

GWC Rugby Rankings do not apply.

Prediction: Georgia 'A' by 25 points.

RUGBY, RUGBY, RUGBY. Its a Huge Weekend of International Rugby.

We may not have time to sleep! I count 18 international rugby test matches to be played globally this weekend. There is some doubt over the Egypt-Libya test match, which is a pity as for both it would be their first international rugby test match.

13.11.2009
South Africa v France in Toulouse
Samoa v Wales in Cardiff
Ireland ‘A’ v Tonga in Ulster (Possibly not a test match)
Romania v Italy ‘A’ in Piacenza
Ukraine v Georgia ‘A’ in Tblissi

14.11.2009
New Zealand v Italy in Milan
Argentina v England at Twickenham
Fiji v Scotland at Murrayfield
Europe XV v French Barbarians in Brussels (Non test-FIRA’s 75th Birthday)
United States v Uruguay in Montevideo (WCQ Americas, R2 Playoff, 1st leg)
Georgia v Argentina ‘A’ in TBC
Tunisia v Namibia in Tunis (WCQ Africa & Africa Cup Final, 1st Leg)
Moldova v Czech Republic in Chisinau (WCQ Europe R4; ENC 2A)
Austria v Norway in Vienna (ENC 3B)
Monaco v Cyprus in Menton (ENC 3D)
Egypt v Libya in Tripoli/Cairo-Some doubt about this fixture

15.11.2009
Australia v Ireland in Dublin
Canada v Japan in Sendai

This is not a record. I well recall back in 2003, the first weekend of the rugby world cup, being held in Australia. It was a massive weekend with 30 test matches being played. The Friday 10th was the start of the World Cup and they had pool matches on the Saturday and Sunday. At the same time there were international tournaments in Africa and South America I think. Anyway, 30 test matches nearly drove me mad. I was so excited and exhausted all at the same time. And guess what? I lost all the data work for the tournament when my computer crashed in January and I'd forgotten to back up. I wept!!

Super 15 Rugby. A New Era

Melbourne has been selected as the new Super Franchise rugby team. Melbourne will join the 14 other teams for the 2011 competition.

Although I usually only cover world rugby at the international level (just a question of time available) I am posting this article as it is very important to rugby where I live-Tasmania. Yes little, out-of-the-way and off-the-world-rugby-track Tasmania.

Rugby in Tasmania is very much a minor football code. Aussie rules (AFL) is THE winter sport here, with the locals following their favoured AFL team with a passion and fanaticism similar to that seen in Victoria. So rugby struggles. There is a senior men's statewide competition involving 5 Hobart teams, and one each from Launceston, Devonport (my home town) and Burnie.

With the advent of Melbourne becoming the 15th Super Rugby franchise Tasmanians now have a pathway to play professional rugby. Rugby in Melbourne is a lot stronger than in Tasmania. I'd expect one or two local Melbourne players to pick up a contract with the new franchise but would not expect any Tasmanians to get the nod. Not yet.

To start with most of the Melbourne players will come from inter-state; top club players from Sydney or Brisbane not required by their local franchise. With a little more sense in what areas can be covered by Super 15 Franchises, I'd like to see the way open for Pacific Islanders to be included-players from Fiji, Samoa, Tonga and the Cook Islands-to boost the playing strength of teams like Melbourne, who may struggle if the net is not cast wider than just Aussie rugby players.

The 2011 Super 15 competition will be run differently to what we saw in Super 12 and Super 14 tournaments. Each SANZAR nation now has five teams, or what will be called a conference. There will be a New Zealand Conference, an Australian Conference and a South Africa Conference. Each conference will play a home-away series firstly and then play eight teams from the other conferences on a home-or-away basis. This will mean a good number of local derbies to be played in Melbourne, giving us Tasmanians a chance to see some of these games, an even a chance for a game each season to be played either in Hobart or Launceston. It is certainly exciting news for the rugby locals.

So what about a name for this new franchise? You can't use 'Storm', 'Force' or 'Hurricane'.

Post some ideas here. What are your ideas?

Test Rugby: Portugal Struggle For its Top Players

Portugal struggled to get it's top France-based players to play international rugby on Saturday according to Head Coach Tomaz Moraiz. "All professional players operating in France are not released by the clubs. In fact, some of them are playing soon [ for their French clubs], but they are professionals, the law protects the clubs".
Regarding the unavailability of Cristian Spachuk, "We have no news from his club. We await the response by the French federation, and if it does not come, we will act legally," he said, explaining that even David Penalva was unavailable for the next tests against Argentina 'A' and Tonga, siting 'family reasons'.

So much for the November window which, according to the IRB, commits all clubs to release players for international duty. How can the IRB enforce this ruling? What are your thoughts?

New Zealand dominated Wales to edge out the boys from the vales. Wales showed more flare but poor handling and a lack of finish cost them points. The Kiwis moved into 'grind down' mode in the second half, with Dan Carter again the supremo tactician.

Australia came back from 5-9 down to defeat an English side, Wilkinson apart, deficient of a game plan away from grinding forward play. Australia's ability to bounce back would have pleased coach Deans. Its has been Australia's weak second half efforts that has been a worry this year. As for Wilkinson, all the old magic is still there. Pity his fellow backs lacked attacking flair.

In European rugby, Namibia showed its deeper playing experience by just edging out Portugal 12-9 in Lisbon, whilst Malta caused an upset by defeating Sweden 25-23 at home. The Netherlands overwhelmed Latvia and look set to return to ENC 2A, whilst Luxembourg made hard work of their 9-3 win over Finland. The Finns look destined to play in ENC 3D for 2010-12. Finally Azerbaijan went down 5-16 to the visiting Bosnians. (edited 09.11.09)

Rugby Test: New Zealand Begin Tour Against Wales

07.11.2009
New Zealand v Wales in Cardiff

Venue: Millennium Stadium

Referee: Craig Joubert (South Africa)

Preview
There was a time long ago when these two teams were deadly foe. Those days have long long gone and now traditionally New Zealand beats Wales, and usually wins easily. Is this the case tomorrow in Wales?

Wales has injury problems. British & Irish Lions Lee Byrne, Mike Phillips, Adam Jones, Ian Evans and Gavin Henson are all out for the series or unavailable for this match. Their forward pack has a brittleness about it and James Hook is out of position at fullback.

New Zealand is approaching the form that is always expected of it. The return of Dan Carter as put new life into a team that has generally performed below its best. Despite some players being either suspended or rested after the Tokyo test against Australia, New Zealand looks to be too strong, again, against Wales.

Last Five Encounters
22.11.2009 New Zealand 29-9 in Cardiff

20.11.2004 New Zealand 26-25 in Cardiff

International Rugby: Australia Faces England

07.11.2009
Australia v England at Twickenham (Cook Cup)

Referee: Bryce Lawrence (New Zealand)

Preview
Australia and England square off in an international rugby match that promises to be a close encounter.

England has lurched from injury woe to injury worry in the last month. Enough front line elite players are out with injury they could make a starting lineup themselves. Martin Johnson has managed to put together a team that has a number of old hands back on deck and a few new ones as well. The most interesting recall is the great Jonny Wilkinson. Now a veteran aged 29 years and some 70 tests, he now plays in France and whose form looks as good as ever. Has he got what it still takes to step up a notch to international level.

Australia is struggling to find any sort of consistent form. They have defeated the mighty Springbox once this year and came within a point of the All Blacks around about the same time. But other than those two matches they have looked a step below their Tri Nation brothers. They have a new captain in Rocky Elsom and a coach who is beginning to attract unfavourable media comment. Aussies simply have no time for a team that is consistently losing. They simply must win this game to have any sort of international credibility and to keep the faithful interested back home.

Although this is not the first encounter between these two teams its the first in over ten years. The match is part of the IRB's push to engage more tier 2 and tier 3 nations during the November northern window of opportunity.

Namibia would be particularly pleased to have a warm-up game before they take on Tunisia in the first leg of the African Rugby World Cup Final position. Portugal, who are 3rd in the ENC 1, will be eager to show good form leading into Round 2 of ENC 1 and a place in the World Cup qualifiers. Namibia and Portugal may well meet further on down the qualifying track.

Test Match: Malta and Sweden Clash

07.11.2009
Malta v Sweden in Corradina

Venue: Hibernians Stadium

Referee: Hoffman (Portugal)

Preview
A win against Sweden would almost certainly secure Malta's place in this division for 2010-12. The team has returned a few experienced players who were not available for the team that travelled to Croatia last weekend. Also included is 19 year old Thomas Pace, who will be making his test debut.

Malta does not have a suitable training ground. The team has to travel overseas to prepare for important rugby matches and this situation will need to improve if Malta is to progress in the rugby world. This is according to MRFU President Michael Galea, who was interviewed by timesofmalta.com.

Assistance Swedish coach Mike Hales was pleased with his teams improved performance when they went down 16-19 against Netherlands last weekend. He feels the team has trained well and is beginning to work better as a team.

Malta won the first round match 9-6 away in Sweden which was a an excellent performance away. Since then Malta was defeated 27-9 by Netherlands .Sweden, though has improved and nearly caused an upset going down 16-19 to Netherlands last weekend.

Test Rugby: Can Netherlands Remain Undefeated?

07.11.2009
Netherlands v Latvia in Amsterdam (ENC 2B)

Venue: National Rugby Centre

Referee: Reinecke (Germany)

2009.11.07 Netherlands v Latvia

Preview
The Netherlands remain undefeated following their close 19-16 win over Sweden last weekend. Although in second place behind Croatia they have a match in hand. With their last two games in this tournament at home there are great hopes for a clean sweep and a return to Division 2A for 2010-12.

Latvia crashed at home 9-23 to Croatia a few weeks ago and they have a an uphill battle to win this away game. There next games are against Sweden and Malta, matches they must win to avoid relegation.

Rugby Test: Finland Play in Luxembourg

07.11.2009
Finland v Luxembourg in Luxembourg (ENC 3C)

Venue: Stade Josy Barthel

Referee: Donovan (Denmark)

Preview
For these two teams this is the match that will probably decide who is relegated to ENC 3D for 2010-12.

Both teams have lost to Bulgaria in this the second round. Luxembourg played away whilst Finland, looking the weaker of the two, lost heavily to the Eastern Europeans at home. On the strength of that Luxembourg, playing at home, looks the likely winner.

Marty Davis, the coach of Luxembourg is fortunate to have Bond and Timmermans back in the backline after injury.

Luxembourg is actually one of the smallest nations playing rugby but there are now about 700 registered players in Luxembourg a big increase from 2000 when there was only 200 so the sport in the Grand Duchy is seeing a real growth, “which we want to see reflected in the success of [the] national team”, said Davis in an interview with station.lu. Ten out of the 22 players in the squad were born in Luxembourg.

Finland has struggled in this division and has lost its last six internationals. This test will be a desperate struggle for a win to lift them away from relegation.

International Test Rugby: Azerbaijan Face Bosnia Herzegovina

07.11.2009
Bosnia Herzegovina v Azerbaijan in Baku (ENC 3D)

Venue: Stadium Sythian

Referee: Poplavskiy (Ukraine)

Preview
B-H are in the lead in ENC 3D but Cyprus has a match in hand. Cyprus has already defeated B-H away and remain undefeated. B-H must win this game to keep up with Cyprus.

Bosnia Herzegovina's defeated Monaco 52-5 last October. Image thanks to http://www.zeragbi.blogspot.com/

Azerbaijan gave the Bosnians a huge fright this time last year. They took a depleted side to Bosnia, were expected to lose by 70 points or so but instead put up a huge fight against an obviously unmotivated and complacent side. I can't see the Bosnians allowing this to happen again.

Georgian Malkhaza Cheishvili assumed the position of Azeri head coach only a month ago. Azerbaijan injuries include lgare Gubadove and Muratkhane Farzalieve. Without the team lists its difficult to assertain the strength of the sides but I expect the Bosnians to win.

There is no relegation out of ENC 3D. This level is at the bottom of the European ladder. It is possible, according to the source below, that Turkey will take Slovakia's place in the 2010-12 ENC 3D.

International Rugby: A Weekend of Upsets

31.10.2009
New Zealand 32, Australia 19 in Tokyo (Bledisloe Cup)
Belgium 14, Moldova 3 in Brussels (WCQ Europe R4; ENC 2A)
Croatia 34, Malta 14 in Split (ENC 2B)
Netherlands 19, Sweden 16 in Trelleborg (ENC 2B)
Denmark 27, Hungary 18 in Odense (ENC 3B)

Briefly
Two major upsets in European rugby; Belgium over Moldova and Denmark over Hungary. Elsewhere New Zealand comfortably edged Australia to its 4th straight Bledisloe loss. Croatia won easily against a 'depleted' Maltese side whilst the Netherlands kept its undefeated record against Sweden.
