CONSUR B: Day 2

11.11.2015
G3.Colombia v Venezuela in Lima (CONSUR B)

Last year Colombia won this competition and defeated Venezuela 27-10 in the process. Colombia looks the goods to take this competition again and they should win this one.

Prediction: Colombia by 7 points. Score 22-15

G4.Peru v Ecuador in Lima (CONSUR B)

Just how much has Ecuador improved from last year? This match should sort that question out. Peru will likely rest a few players before their big clash with Colombia on Saturday. This will give Ecuador a chance to post a respectable result.

Prediction: Peru by 28 points. Score 45-17

Peru caused an upset at the CONSUR B tournament in Lima with a convincing 24-10 win over Venezuela. Colombia outplayed Ecuador in the first game of the day but the Ecuadorians were a greatly improved side than the one last that conceded 100 points against the same opposition.

Colombia against Peru could well be the decider in this competition.

RUGBY EUROPE CHAMPIONSHIP

07.11.2015

Division 1B

Moldova 25, Sweden 7 in Malmo

Sweden were considerably weakened by the decision of a number of leading players to represent Sweden in a sevens tournament. Even so they did well to hold the much respected Moldovan side who seriously underperforms away from home, usually because a number of top players are usually unavailable.

Division 2A

Croatia 26, Israel 21 in Netanya

Israel failed to take advantage of their home ground against Croatia although they did get a bonus point.

Israel’s next game is a very tough one away to Switzerland. They’ll be hoping for a repeat performance against front contender Czech Republic when they drew 26-26 in Prague. Croatia will host Malta next weekend.

Division 2B

Latvia 31, Cyprus 3 in Paphos

The once invincible Cyprus team, and world record holder of the most consecutive test rugby wins, has fallen on hard times in this division. They were promoted last season but have failed to fire against the stronger opposition in this division.

Neither team is playing next weekend.

Division 2C

Slovenia 33, Serbia 17 in Belgrade

This was the third match in the REC games this weekend in which the home side lost. Serbia were outplayed by their northern rugby rivals despite nearly scoring a fourth (and bonus) try towards the end.

The Serbs will have a tough away game against Luxembourg next weekend whilst Slovenia hosts Denmark at home.

NACRA Caribbean Championship. South Playoff

07.11.2015
Barbados 17, British Virgin Islands 15 in Tortola.

This win means that Barbados stays in the first division South whilst BVI remains in the second.

The match USA South v Bahamas was also scheduled for today but nothing can be found about this game. If this is the case Bahamas stays in Division 1 whilst, surprisingly, USA South remains in North Division 2.

TEST RUGBY RESULTS: Test Friendly

07.11.2015
Costa Rica 72, Panama 25 in San Jose

These two teams will meet again next month in the CONSUR C competition to be held in El Salvador.

This will be a crucial match for Moldova. Notoriously weak when playing away and like ferocious devils at home they need this win (and the rest) to get near or head off Belgium and Ukraine.

Moldova has always struggled when playing away. They may well face a revised and determined home team.

Sweden has little chance of avoiding relegation but this game could well be a vital building step towards a stronger team.
